Author guidelines
The CPTED Journal is interested in a wide range of articles. We are primarily focused on the application of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED). As with The International CPTED Association (ICA), our interest is the professional, practice-based methods of, and research into, CPTED. We incorporate a rigorous, scientific, examination of topics using a blind peer-review process.
Here are categories of articles we seek:
Review Articles
Review articles can be about the history of CPTED, ongoing CPTED research, or CPTED theories. They might not include original, empirical data, but they should aim to uncover some overarching trends in the field or point to some gaps in theory or research. As review articles they will typically be heavy on the literature review (at least 50 or more research studies in the bibliography), and they will relate directly to some aspect of historical, current, or proposed CPTED practice and theory.
Original Research Articles
These articles report on-going or completed original research on some aspect of CPTED. They will have a short literature review to set the context, hypotheses and research questions, description of research methods, and original data. They will contribute to the practice or theory in CPTED. They can also include case studies about individual projects, longitudinal or cross-sectional studies on CPTED effectiveness, comparative studies on CPTED application, or theory-testing studies.
Policy/Historical Research Articles
These articles report on some aspect of policy, procedures, or history in relation to CPTED. They might include legal changes that affect practice, ethics or civil rights related to CPTED, or some procedural aspects of CPTED. They may also include reviews of CPTED theory or aspects of new CPTED-related security technologies, such as artificial intelligence.
